Established in Britain in 1934 (at a time when betting was still illegal), William Hill has risen to become one of the largest bookmakers in the world. They exploded onto the Australian bookmaking scene in 2013 when they acquired Sportingbet group’s Australian business, along with their subsidiaries Sportingbet and Centrebet (and later Tom Waterhouse).
In February 2015 Sportingbet was officially rebranded as William Hill, and later both the Centrebet and Tom Waterhouse brands were rolled into the brand, resulting in one of Australia’s largest customer bases.
Not content with being one of the largest, William Hill is known for using aggressive money-back bonuses, lucrative joining offers, and an evocative marketing campaigns in an attempt to gain greater market share.
William Hill has one of the best joining offers in the Australian market, especially for those willing to deposit a reasonable sum of money. Below is an exclusive joining offer that Betucate has sourced for you. Compare joining offers for all bookmakers here.
William Hill markets itself heavily on the strength of their promotions, building a market campaign around ‘real money back offers’ rather than mere bonus bets. Since the middle of 2016, these money back promotions have been cut back in both scale and frequency, however when they are on offer they are still amongst the best in the industry.
Whilst William Hill has fallen slightly down in the pecking order in terms of promotions, it does still stand above the majority of other commercial bookmakers by offering promotions on a range of major and niche sports, and remains a genuine leader when it comes to horseracing promotions. Of particular note are William Hill’s seasonal bets, which offer weekly payouts on futures (i.e. top scorer, or to win the premiership) bets every time the team wins or a player scores.

Based on our cross sport analysis, we found William Hill’s odds (with an average bookmaker margin, or ‘house edge’ of 4.8%) to be much the same as the market average for online Asutalian bookmakers (4.7%). And whilst they are below low margin specialists like Pinnacle, they offer far better odds than your traditional bricks and mortar bookmakers like TAB.
Our analysis discovered that William Hill’s overall sports coverage is weaker than most other Australian bookmakers, as they tend to avoid many obscure sports picked up by competitors.
That said, on the sports they do cover, they offer a competitive range of bet types (including granular ‘pick your own’ lines, exotics and player specials) across a reasonable number of leagues.

A William Hill account is must have for any serious sports better, with great promotions, features and a market leading joining offer. Their somewhat limited sports coverage means you’d definitely want to join at least one other bookmaker (or, as we advocate, join as many bookmakers as you can to ensure you do not ever miss out on the best odds or promotions).
